Steps
In order, where it happened.
- 1
Casa de la Vall and the old quarter
Casa de la Vall
Start in the Barri Antic, the small cobbled heart of the capital. The 16th-century Casa de la Vall was the seat of parliament until 2011, and you can see the council chamber and the old courtroom. Entry is about 5 euros, with a small extra fee for the guided visit, so book ahead for the guided option. It is closed on Mondays.
- 2
Sant Esteve church
Església de Sant Esteve
A few minutes away is the small Romanesque church of Sant Esteve, free to enter when it is open. It is a quiet ten to twenty minute stop with a modern touch inside. Opening depends on services, so just peek in if the door is open.
- 3
Carmen Thyssen Museum
Museu Carmen Thyssen Andorra
This compact museum opened in 2017 and shows pieces from the Carmen Thyssen collection, from Turner to Kandinsky. It is easy to see in about an hour, so it fits well before lunch. Rainy mornings are a good time to go.
- 4
Lunch at Borda Estevet
Borda Estevet
Bordas are old farm buildings turned into grill restaurants, and this one on the Carretera de la Comella is a local favourite. It has stone walls, wooden beams and meat served on hot slate. Try the trinxat, a cabbage and potato dish, and leave room for the homemade desserts. Book on weekends.
- 5
Afternoon soak at Caldea
Caldea
Finish at Caldea, the large geothermal spa in Escaldes-Engordany. Expect indoor and outdoor lagoons, waterfalls and jets, and plan about two hours. Tickets start at roughly 30 euros and book online ahead for weekends and winter. It is a short drive or bus ride from the centre.
