    Walk the Brooklyn Bridge from Manhattan

    Start at the City Hall end and walk toward Brooklyn on the wooden promenade. Go early in the morning or near sunset when it is less crowded. Keep to the pedestrian side and watch for cyclists in the bike lane. It takes about 30 to 40 minutes at a photo-taking pace.

    Right under the bridge on Old Fulton Street, Juliana's serves coal-oven pizza that reviewers keep praising. Weekend lines get long, so arrive before noon or after 3pm. Margherita is the classic order and a pie is easy to share between two.

    Brooklyn Bridge Park and Pier 1

    Brooklyn Bridge Park

    This 85-acre waterfront park is free and has lawns, a beach and wide views of lower Manhattan. Pier 1 is a good place to sit with an ice cream and watch the ferries. Bring a layer, because it can be breezy on the water.

    Jane's Carousel in its glass pavilion

    Jane's Carousel

    This 1922 carousel sits in a glass pavilion right on the river and a ride costs only a couple of dollars. It is small, sweet and easy to fit in between walks. Bring small bills or a card for the ticket.

    The Washington Street view

    The famous frame: the Manhattan Bridge arch with the Empire State Building in the middle. It is busiest on weekends, so a weekday morning or late afternoon gives you the best chance at a clean shot. Cobblestones are uneven, so wear comfortable shoes.

    End the day at this Mexican bar and restaurant with a patio in the shadow of the bridge. Order tacos or guacamole with a cocktail while the lights come on. Reservations help on warm evenings.
